3G / 4G License Award Ceremony

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Ministry of IT and Telecom (MoITT) are arranging the license award ceremony for the operators who have recently won 3G and 4G licenses. This ceremony is expected on 24th May, 2014.

The 3G / 4G License Award Ceremony was first organized on 10th may but it was delayed because of the delay in payment and differences of operators with FBR.

FBR asked the telecom regulator to collect 10% withholding tax on top of the basic license fee. But the operators were of the view that the move was surprising and PTA should had mentioned this tax collection in the Information Memorandum (IM).

Withholding tax is an amount that will ultimately get settled by FBR – and will be repaid to the operators or will be leveled against other taxes on operators by the end of fiscal year – but telcos were not willing to pay millions of dollars in addition to what they had to pay as spectrum fee.

Sources said that the PM of Pakistan,  Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif might also attend the license awarding ceremony.
