Google Play Store usually undergoes modifications quite often. However, these days Google seems to modify its interface to improve the user experience. According to the latest reports, Google is working on a new permanent search bar for its Play Store. It will be a fresh deviation from the familiar, especially for frequent users of the Play store.
Google Experiments Permanent Search Bar For Google Play Store
Reports claim that the Play Store app has a hidden feature flag that docks the search bar in place. It indicates that Google is at least testing the new functionality. The Play Store app currently hides the search bar area when you scroll, which also includes access to the main settings menu and notifications area. However, when the flag is enabled, the whole action bar area is pinned in place, regardless of which homepage tab you’re viewing. It makes it much easier to access the menu from app updates and offers.
The permanent search bar is in its experimental phase right now. However, rooted Android users can get a sneak peek of it and enable the feature with the flag SearchHome__enable_search_home in the package com.google.android.finsky.stable. For that purpose, you will need GappsMod, which is available on GitHub. However, the question arises why is Googlemaking these experiments and changes? Reports and some authentic sources claim that it is part of the search giant’s ongoing mission to refine the Android ecosystem. The company wants to ensure that the Play Store remains user-friendly and efficient. Moreover, it also aligns with their latest introduction of the auto app archiving option. For those who are unaware, this feature optimizes storage by automatically archiving apps that haven’t been used for a while. It was only available to users with low storage initially. However, it’s available for everyone now.
Last week, Play Store also enabled a darker dark mode. It is now live for most users. However, the updated background still utilizes Material You dynamic theming. It injects the dark gray background in most apps with a hue of color that complements the wallpaper you have set. The darker shade of gray also helps to save battery life on phones with AMOLED displays. Just for your information, the darker colors need the individual pixels of the screen to emit less light.
Google’s continuous efforts highlight its commitment to refining the Play Store’s interface whether it’s a search bar or a theme touch-up. If this staple search bar becomes a permanent feature, it would prove to be quite handy. It will allow quicker, more direct searches for users. Isn’t it? What do you guys think?
