All Electric Bus Routes Become Fully Operational in Islamabad

All 21 routes of the electric bus service in Islamabad are now fully operational, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The project aims to provide residents with affordable, reliable, and environmentally friendly public transport, and it has already received strong public approval.
Officials reported that more than 102,000 passengers used the electric buses in a single day, highlighting the growing popularity of the service. The update was shared during a meeting chaired by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, where progress on several development projects in the capital was reviewed.

Authorities informed the meeting that work on the electric bus depot, spread across two sites, is almost complete, with around 97 percent of construction finished. Construction at Site A has been completed in full, while the remaining work is nearing completion.
In addition to the electric bus project, progress was also discussed on connecting Margalla Avenue with the M-1 Motorway, a move expected to improve traffic flow and regional connectivity. Updates were also shared on the development of the Convention, Expo, and Exhibition Centre, as well as plans for a luxury hotel project in the city.
Officials said these projects reflect the government’s broader vision to modernize Islamabad’s infrastructure while promoting sustainable and citizen-friendly urban development.
