Another Step Towards Digitization- China Introduces Face Scans for Mobile Users

When it comes to digitization, China is on the top list these days. It has produced some high-quality products, marvellous interventions and renowned IT brands that are flourishing in all parts of this world. If it kept on moving towards technology at such a high pace, in no time it will become a superpower. This time China has introduced something new. It has asked all the telecom operators operational there to collect face scans when registering new phone users. By introducing Face Scans for Mobile Users, China will be able to tighten cyberspace controls. In this way, no one would be able to use someone else identity to get other numbers for faulty purposes.

Face Scans for Mobile Users will Ensure More Safety

To make the telecom industry safer for users, China’s industry and information technology ministry had published a notice on “safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of citizens online. The telecom operators will use artificial intelligence and might be some other technical means to confirm people identities when they buy a new cellphone number.

The Chinese Government had also introduced real name phone registration in 2013 which means that ID cards will be linked to phone numbers. However, as AI is not operational, they want to make the overall process more transparent. When this news broke on social media, the government has to face mix emotions; however, one should appreciate China’s efforts of taking their country towards digitization in just a span of few years.
