Apple Reveals it is Working on Self-Driving Cars

For the first time Apple has confirmed that it is working on developing self-driving cars technology. This news was already in rumors from the past two years, however the firm has finally revealed secret project initiative in statement to US highway regulator. Apple Reveals it is Working on Self-Driving Cars.

Apple Reveals it is Working on Self-Driving Cars

Steve Kenner, Apple’s director of product integrity revealed their plan in a statement to the head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It is the company’s most comprehensive statement up-till now about its curiosity in self-driving vehicle technology.

Steve Kenner said :

The company is investing heavily in the study of machine learning and automation, and is excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation

As, in self driven cars software will decide what actions should be performed in possibly dangerous situations so certain areas need special attention. These areas includes insinuations of algorithmic decisions for the safety, mobility and legality of automatic automobiles and their tenants.

Impact of cars on employment and public spaces will also be insured. Some predictors estimate millions of jobs will be lost once self-driving cars actually replace truck, taxi and Uber drivers. It will also eradicate the need for most automobiles repairs and other functions.

Apple requested NHTSA not to impose too many restrictions in testing of self-driving cars, saying that established manufacturers and new entrants should be treated equally. Company’s spokes person Tom Neumayr told that the firm is investing heavily in learning machine and autonomous systems.

He said:

There are many potential applications for these technologies, including the future of transportation, so we want to work with NHTSA to help define the best practices for the industry

Kenner argued that developers should share their data as they develop automated systems. It will help everyone identify unusual situations or edge cases that cars may come across on the roads.

Companies should share de-identified scenario and dynamics data from crashes and near misses, By sharing data, the industry will build a more comprehensive data set than any one company could create alone.

Apple joins hand with a range of automakers and tech companies that have raised concerns about the proposed National Highway Traffic Safety Administration policy on self-driving cars.
