AT&T Inc. plans to be the first U.S. carrier to launch 5G mobile service to phone customers this year. Now as we all know that the industry has entered in the race on a spec for 5G and AT&T hopes to be one of the first. AT&T to Launch Mobile 5G Wireless Phone Service this Year.
The company is planning to launch spec-based mobile 5G in 12 cities by late 2018. But it is not revealed that where those markets are or which devices will be the first to adopt the faster speeds.
AT&T to Launch Mobile 5G Wireless Phone Service this Year
This is such a good news because faster connections will help carriers sell advanced services like virtual reality, 4K video and enable self-driving cars. While it is also in news that Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint Corp. are also planning to offer mobile 5G services but haven’t elaborated on their plans.
Melissa Arnoldi, president, AT&T Technology and Operations said in a press release that:
“5G will change the way we live, work and enjoy entertainment. We’re moving quickly to begin deploying mobile 5G this year and start unlocking the future of connectivity for consumers and businesses. With faster speeds and ultra-low latency, 5G will ultimately deliver and enhance experiences like virtual reality, future driverless cars, immersive 4K video and more.
AT&T has laid the groundwork for 5G through network upgrades in 23 cities and fixed wireless trials in Kalamazoo, Michigan; South Bend, Indiana; Waco and Austin Texas. However it has not disclosed yet that where it plans to launch mobile 5G initially or what airwaves or network equipment will be used.
