I know there are so many out there who are in love with beetle but a bit reluctant to run the car just because of its low powered engine. Well, today I came to know about an interesting thing and I couldn’t stop myself to share it with you dear readers. So let me tell you the good news and that is Volkswagen -a German automaker-has revealed a new way for vintage Beetle owners to convert their cars to battery electric power. Isn’t so interesting? Of course, it is. Personally, I am loving the idea.
But a bit worried about the cost! Anyhow the overall idea is mind-blowing. For this purpose, the Volkswagen is doing a partnership with a German firm Known as eClassics that will actually perform the retrofits, and the German automaker will provide the batteries and powertrain.

According to the VW that it is also working on an electric conversion solution for vintage microbuses. The German automaker even also focusing on how to use the modular MEB platform which can power many of its forthcoming electric cars in future conversions.
VW is providing a new single-speed powertrain to eClassics. The automaker has borrowed single-speed powertrain from the automaker’s E-Up! electric city car. The battery will come with a total capacity of 36.8 kWh, that is good for around 200 kilometers (124 miles) of range.
As a result of that, the retrofit Beetles will make almost 80 horsepower. Furthermore, the car will be able to go from 0 to 80 kilometers (about 50 miles) per hour in around eight seconds.
