Beware Of New WhatsApp Scam

Users must be cautioned against latest scam.

Recently we have become aware of a new scam making the rounds on WhatsApp. Reports reveal that a message has been going around which claims to be offering gullible users 1000GB of free mobile data. The fraud is being operated via scammers through a fake website which also features other frauds for well-known brands.

Beware of new WhatsApp scam!

Once a user clicks on the link they are immediately redirected to a website which asks them a number of questions in order to prove their qualifications for the 1000GB of “free” data. Officials warn users to be wary of  such scams as they aim to engage the user in a “click fraud”. By redirecting users the scam to their website the fraudsters compile fake ad clicks which then brings in revenues for the operators of any campaigns.

This isn’t the only scam users have seen. Other frauds have been highly prevalent on the app ever since its rise in popularity and usage around the world. These include links which claim to award you with a free car and other assets. In fact a similar scam relating to free mobile data was also seen circulating WhatsApp in 2017. When users clicked the links they were redirected to websites which signed them up automatically for costly services or or installed third party apps onto their mobiles.

It is essential for users to know not fall for any such scams as they can greatly harm them and even infringe upon their privacy.
