As globalization bring people and businesses closer, traditions amongst other things are exchanged. An example of this can be seen in the form of Black Friday being introduced in Pakistan. The South Asian country was bewitched by Black Friday in 2015, when various online startups bombarded the social media to inform people about the event and to avail the opportunity to shop more and pay less.

The startups offered various products, including electronics, clothes, shoes and travel, with discount up to 80% on this particular day. As a result, the initial launch of Black Friday received a very positive response from the online shoppers as they flooded the social media platforms, including website and smartphone app, to get hold of this one of a kind opportunity.

Getting the green signal from the online market in 2015, the startup businesses are all set to offer a better and a more crazier version of Black Friday in 2016. The social media is bombarded by various companies, including Daraz.pk, Kaymu, Jovago.pk with their respective Black Friday campaigns to inform customers about the biggest shopping extravaganza of the year.

Seeing the Black Friday that is being cast upon the internet, one can say that the said event is an emerging as an e-commerce trend in Pakistan. This is because, the concept of Black Friday is usually associated with the online market.  Although some retail stores also launched Black Friday sale in their outlets in 2015, people are still  linking it with the online platform.

Perhaps this is because of the increase in awareness among customers regarding the internet. Moreover,  the convenience that the online platform provides in the form of time saving, choices and even cost saving, is another reason why Black Friday can be seen as an E-commerce trend in Pakistan.

The startup businesses see the biggest shopping sale in a positive light.

According to the Managing Director of Jovago Pakistan,

“Events like Black Friday serve as a boost for the E-commerce industry as more and more people are not only becoming aware of these events but they also engage and respond positively.”
