CEO Telenor, Michael Foley Appointed as New Director of ICT R&D Fund

On Monday, CEO Telenor, Michael Foley has been appointed as new Director of National Information and Communication Technologies Research and Development Fund Company by the board of directors.

Michael Foley was appointed as the new director against a vacant seat for cellular mobile industry’s representative. The selection has been made unanimously in the 36th board meeting chaired by Minister for Information Technology, Anusha Rahman.

Foley, a Canadian citizen, has worked in more than 11 countries and has a more than 30 years of vast experience in sales, marketing and operational experience in the telecom and retail sectors from both advanced and growth markets. Before joining Telenor Pakistan, Michael Foley serves as the Chief Commercial Officer of the Canadian State Lottery, Atlantic Lottery Corporation.

At the meeting, Minister for Information Technology, Anusha Rahman stated: [pull_quote_center]“Government is keen in making efforts for development of information technology sector and as part of holistic strategy a national incubation center is needed for nurturing entrepreneurship.”[/pull_quote_center]

The board was informed on the RFP of Tech City incubation project draft prepared by the subcommittee of the Board, on which certain revisions were proposed by the Board. After the final draft of RFP is sanction by the board it will be distributed forthwith.

Furthermore the Minister for Information Technology, Anusha Rahman also informed the board during the meeting about the announcement of special incentives from the Federal Government on setting up plants for “local manufacturing of mobile phone handsets” in the Budget 2015.
