ChatGPT May Soon Let Users Create and Export Stickers Directly to WhatsApp

OpenAI appears to be working on a new feature that could make it easier to create and use custom WhatsApp stickers. The feature may allow ChatGPT users to generate stickers and send them directly to WhatsApp without relying on separate sticker-making apps.

The feature is currently under development and has not been officially released. It was discovered in the latest version of the ChatGPT Android app through an APK teardown.

According to the findings, the upcoming feature is called “ChatGPT Stickers.” It appears to include options for creating stickers, downloading them, and adding them to other messaging apps.

One of the options specifically mentions “Add to WhatsApp.” If released, users could create a set of stickers in ChatGPT and add them to WhatsApp as a custom sticker pack.

The feature could make the sticker creation process much simpler. Instead of creating an image with another app and then importing it into WhatsApp, users may be able to handle the process directly through ChatGPT.

The discovered app strings also include messages such as “WhatsApp (3 minimum)” and “Couldn’t add stickers to WhatsApp.” This suggests that ChatGPT may require users to create at least three stickers before adding them to WhatsApp.

However, the three-sticker requirement appears to come from WhatsApp rather than OpenAI. WhatsApp requires a minimum number of stickers for a custom pack, so the limitation may not be specific to ChatGPT.

WhatsApp Already Offers AI Sticker Creation

The potential ChatGPT feature would enter a space that WhatsApp has already explored. WhatsApp includes an AI-powered sticker creation tool that allows users to generate stickers using text prompts.

The tool uses Meta AI to turn descriptions into images that users can share in conversations.

ChatGPT could offer a similar experience while adding a direct export option. Users could potentially describe the sticker they want, generate several versions, and then add the selected stickers to WhatsApp.

This could be especially useful for people who regularly use personalized stickers, memes, reactions, or custom illustrations in their chats.

Release Date Remains Unknown

The feature is still being developed, so there is no confirmed launch date. The discovery came from examining the Android app’s code and strings, which does not guarantee that OpenAI will eventually make the feature available to everyone.

OpenAI could also change how the feature works before releasing it or decide not to launch it at all.

For now, WhatsApp users will have to continue using the existing sticker tools. If OpenAI does release ChatGPT Stickers, however, creating and exporting personalized stickers could become much easier.

The feature could also expand beyond WhatsApp in the future, as the discovered wording refers generally to adding stickers to “chat apps.” At launch, WhatsApp appears to be the only platform specifically mentioned.
