Claude Can Now Send Emails in Gmail Without Asking for Approval

Anthropic is giving its Claude AI assistant more control over Gmail. Claude can now reply to emails in Gmail and send those responses on a user’s behalf without requiring approval every time.

Claude has supported Google Workspace for some time. Users can connect it with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive to help manage emails, events, and files. However, Claude previously could not send emails directly from Gmail.

That has now changed. Users can ask Claude to reply to an email, and the AI can write the response and send it automatically. This means users do not necessarily have to review the message before it reaches the recipient.

Claude Can Now Send Emails in Gmail Without Asking for Approval

Anthropic still gives users control over this feature. Approval is enabled by default, so Claude will normally ask for permission before sending an email. Users can change this setting if they want Claude to complete the action without asking each time.

Claude can also forward emails through Gmail. The same approval settings apply to sending, replying to, and forwarding messages.

For Team and Enterprise plans, workspace owners can decide whether members are allowed to use these actions without approval. This gives organizations more control over how much freedom Claude has when working with company email accounts.

The new feature is part of Anthropic’s broader push to make Claude more capable of performing tasks instead of simply providing suggestions. Rather than drafting an email for users to send themselves, Claude can now complete the entire process when given permission to do so.

However, giving an AI the ability to send messages automatically also raises questions about accuracy and control. A mistake in an automatically sent email could reach the recipient before the user has a chance to correct it. For this reason, Anthropic’s default approval setting provides an important safety layer.

The Gmail sending feature is available to users on paid Claude plans. It gives users the choice between keeping control over every outgoing message or allowing Claude to handle email replies more independently.

As AI assistants become more capable of taking actions on behalf of users, features like this could make everyday email management faster. At the same time, users will need to decide how much control they are comfortable giving an AI over their inbox.
