Delayed Again? GTA 6 Online Could Take Years to Arrive After the Game’s Launch

Fans are getting closer to the launch of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6, but those waiting for the next version of GTA Online may have to be much more patient.

Rockstar Games is scheduled to launch GTA 6 on November 19, 2026. The game has already faced delays, but recent updates suggest that development is moving forward as planned. However, Rockstar has not provided a release date for the online multiplayer experience.

Delayed Again? GTA 6 Online Could Take Years to Arrive After the Game’s Launch

When GTA 6 arrives, players will initially get its single-player experience. Rockstar has also confirmed that there will not be additional purchases at launch beyond the premium editions of the game.

This means players should not expect a new GTA Online experience alongside the main game on day one. Rockstar has remained quiet about when the online component could arrive.

The lack of information has led to plenty of speculation among fans. According to reports, Rockstar currently has little reason to rush the launch of a new GTA Online platform.

GTA Online is Still Making Money

The current GTA Online remains extremely successful years after its original release. Rockstar continues to earn significant revenue from the game through its virtual currency and Shark Card purchases.

Because of this success, Rockstar may not want to immediately replace the existing online experience with a new version. Launching a completely new online world would also require significant development and testing.

Rockstar could instead take its time to build the next generation of GTA Online while continuing to support the current version.

PC Pelease Could Also Play A Role

Another factor is the number of platforms available at launch. GTA 6 is initially coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version is expected eventually, but it is not part of the initial release.

Rockstar may prefer to wait until the game reaches more platforms before launching its new online world. This could help the company bring more players into the new multiplayer experience from the beginning.

GTA 6 Online May Be Years Away

Rockstar has not officially confirmed that GTA 6 Online will take years to launch. However, the company’s silence and the continued success of the existing GTA Online suggest that there may be no need to rush.

The studio could spend additional time testing its new online features, fixing bugs, and preparing a larger multiplayer world. Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive have already seen how successful GTA Online can become, so expectations for its successor will be extremely high.

For now, players should focus on the November 19 launch of GTA 6. The single-player game is arriving first, while the next generation of GTA Online could remain a long-term project. If Rockstar chooses to take its time, fans may have to wait considerably longer before entering its new online world.
