Despite Slower Growth, Apple’s Active Device Count Hits a New High

Apple last disclosed its total active device count in January 2024, reporting 2.2 billion devices at the time. During the latest earnings call for the first quarter of 2025, CEO Tim Cook provided an update, revealing that Apple’s install base has now reached a new record of 2.35 billion active devices. This represents an increase of 150 million devices within the past year and a total increase of 550 million devices since 2022.

Despite Slower Growth, Apple’s Active Device Count Hits a New High

While this growth remains impressive, it does indicate a slowdown compared to previous years. The jump from 1.8 billion in 2022 to 2.2 billion in 2023 was a significant 400 million increase, whereas the latest numbers suggest a more gradual rise. Despite this, Apple’s ecosystem continues to expand, driven by strong sales across multiple product categories.

Apple’s iPhone remains a major contributor to the growing install base, although its revenue slightly declined year-over-year. In Q1 2025, Apple reported $69.1 billion in iPhone revenue, reflecting a slight dip but still contributing significantly to overall sales. Tim Cook emphasized the role of Apple Intelligence in driving iPhone adoption, though some analysts believe other factors played a larger role in sales trends.

Despite the slight decline in iPhone revenue, Apple’s install base growth has been consistent across all regions. The company confirmed that the iPhone reached an all-time high install base in every market, underscoring its widespread adoption.
