Snapdragon X50 will be available in market as sample volumes in the 2nd half of 2017.

Qualcomm also introduced 3 upgraded chip-sets:

  • Two higher-tier chips (653 and 626)
  • One mid-tier (427) model

Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm EVP, also said that:

“Qualcomm is focused on both licensed and unlicensed spectrum as well as cellular and Wi-Fi technology to boost capacity and speeds. Only 16 per cent of operators worldwide can implement gigabit class LTE using licensed spectrum, but he said that using LTE-U and LAA (Licensed-Assisted Access) that percentage rises to 64 per cent.”

Keeping in view the growth in mobile phone market and its increasing use; one could easily understand that the competition is really very tough. Also that chip-set plays fundamental role in smartphone use hence this area is becoming even tougher. Let’s see that with the advent of 5G technology how other chip-set manufactures introduce their modems to support new technology.
