Facebook 3D Photos Roll Out For iPhones Having Portrait Mode

We all know that Facebook announced 3D photos back in May at the F8 event. After that the social giant, Facebook had no words about its rollout. Recently, Facebook started the rollout of this amazing 3D photos Feature to all the iPhone users having portrait mode. Facebook 3D photos will only work on iPhones that have a portrait mode such as iPhone 7+, 8+, X, and XS and so on. However, the company claims to unroll this feature for more phones later on.

Facebook 3D Photos Bring Scenes To Life With Depth And Movement

It is an amazing new feature that uses AI to add depth to a Photo. Furthermore, it adds movement within the photo to see around in different directions. Isn’t it an amazing feature? However, this feature is only available for the iPhones’ portrait mode. The reason is that this feature requires to find depth in a photo in order to separate the foreground from the background.

Here Is How To Create A 3D Photo

Facebook recommends that you should keep the subject three or four feet away from the camera in order to create a good 3D photo. Try to use distinguishable colors for background and subject because AI may not pick shiny items like glass. Once you have done these settings then follow the steps written below:

  • Take a portrait mode picture
  • Access Facebook’s 3D photo option from the status update box
  • Select the portrait mode photo option

After creating 3D photo, the desktop and mobile users will be able to see the photo’s depth. On the other hand, the Oculus Rift users or other VR device users will also be able to move their head to look around the scene. However, the PC/laptop users can simply use their mouse or touchscreen to drag 3D photo. This feature will be made available to iPhones having portrait mode in the coming days through an update.
