According to the Facebook, the content posted by publishers will show up less prominently in news feeds. Surely it will result less traffic to the hundreds of news media sites that have come to rely on Facebook.
“Our success is built on getting people the stories that matter to them most,”
said Adam Mosseri, vice president of product management at Facebook.
“If you could look through thousands of stories every day and choose the 10 that were most important to you, which would they be? The answer should be your News Feed. It is subjective, personal, and unique — and defines the spirit of what we hope to achieve.”
The changes will affect all types of content posted by publishers, including links, videos, live videos and photos. Facebook also said it is expected to drop in reach and referral traffic for publishers. Especially for those publishers whose audience comes primarily to content posted by the publisher’s official Facebook page. Facebook plans to start making the changes this week.
