Facebook Ends ‘Explore Feed’ Test that Showed Two Separate News Feeds

In October, Facebook stated that it was testing a change in the news feed that separated it into two feeds: one for personal posts from friends and family, and another one called the “Explore Feed,” for brands, publishers and other businesses. But now the social network has admitted that it was a worst idea.

Adam Mosseri, Facebook’s head of news feed, wrote in a blog post, that in surveys, people told us they were less satisfied with the posts they were seeing, and having two separate feeds didn’t actually help them connect more with friends and family.

Mosseri on Thursday Said:

“We also received feedback that we made it harder for people in the test countries to access important information, and that we didn’t communicate the test clearly. We’re acting on this feedback by updating the way we evaluate where to test new products, and how we communicate about them.”

Test drew major criticism from publishers in countries like Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Bolivia, Guatemala and Cambodia.
