“you can get the feeling you’re watching the game with your friends even when you aren’t together,”
The Facebook Sports Stadium is available via iOS. According to Facebook it is a feature that lives inside the core Facebook app, and it will be available on other platforms in the coming weeks. Currently this feature is available only for U.S. Football Games but Facebook plans to add other sports soon.
“We think it can really enhance awareness,”. “Maybe you weren’t paying attention and then you see your friends are having this discussion and that can pull you into the game. We think that’s a win-win for everybody. It drives more eyeballs to what [our content partners] are already sharing.
Facebook Sports Stadium currently covers only American football games and comes ahead of next month’s Super Bowl, on 7 February. But it will support other sports, including basketball and soccer, in the future,
Dan Reed, head of global sports partnerships at Facebook said:
“[It’s a complement] to the television experience and even the in-game experience,”. “It provides information about the game, but it also provides you that vital conversation and interaction around the game which we think is really critical to consuming live sports.”
