Facebook Moments is a photo sharing app that allows you to share photos with the friends in your profile. These photos appear in the news feed of a person’s profile. It works on the basis of face recognition technique. According to Europe the major issue in this application is that the companies can take the advantages of their photos or they can keep track of them any time.
The application detects the person face in the photo and have the record of it. Other applications like Google have also introduced such features of photos but the face detection technique was not available in US.
Facebook’s head of policy in Europe Richard Allan:
“We don’t have an opt-in mechanism so it is turned off until we develop one.”
He also said that the company doesn’t have any timeline to do so at this moment.
How it works:
We as a human can easily recognize the person but for a machine it is not easy and computer is a machine so they have applied algorithms so that it recognize the person on basis of some conditions and then starts working. As people love to take photos with their friends and then both of them wants to share it with each other and it’s a long process first to upload it then to select the person whom you want to share it with.
Facebook has made it very easy for the people of US they don’t have to do such step by step process, the picture in their phone are recognize by the application itself and then all the pictures that belong to that person are shared with him automatically. But Europe doesn’t find it useful because they believe people can misuse this and can threat them more easily. That’s why the application is still not launched in Europe.
