Facebook Privacy Is No More A Privacy.

Facebook is the platform where people connect to each other without boundaries restriction. It is the cheapest yet fastest medium of communication. A user can like, comment or share on other’s posts. Recently, Facebook has declared that some contractors are catching the user’s private voice notes. According to the news, Facebook has signed up contractors to hear its users’ conversation taking the benefit from audio-to-text Messenger functionality. Facebook is reading out audio snippets silently. A threat to users’ privacy.

Facebook Listening up The Audio

In Facebook’s opinion, the afflicted users chose their messages to get deciphered. However, this activity was unexplored by users. They did not know that activity was done by humans like them. The hired team has converted the messages to judge the working if Messenger’s functionality.

The designed Facebook policies are not definite. It states,

“We collect the content, communications and other information you provide when you use our products, including when you sign up for an account, create or share content and message or communicate with others.”

After noticing that Apple and Google had ended up the human reviewers, Facebook put a break to its activity. As said by one of the Facebook representatives,

“Much like Apple and Google, we paused human review of audio more than a week ago.”  

Is Facebook Privacy Really A Privacy?

At present, 1.3 billion people are using the Facebook Messenger app. And, it is bothering for the users as soon Messenger is merging with WhatsApp. It is not possible to guess the total of people who listened to audio and users who used transcription functionality.  However, the voice notes were made unidentified, to mask people’s names.

Previously, according to rumors, Siri and Google’s assistant were also listening to the user’s private audio snippets. Microsoft contractors also listened to Skype calls. Thus, a big threat to users’ privacy and security.

Apple has already stopped Facebook from gathering users’ data in the background. An ethical hacker, John Odenakker suggests uninstalling the application. He further added

“If you still want to use Facebook and Messenger on your phone, at least check the app permissions and switch off access to the microphone if it’s enabled.”
