Facebook to Create News Section on Facebook Watch

Facebook is creating a new news section. Recently, The social network has announced that it is creating a section in Watch that will feature breaking news stories in its video streaming platform. Facebook to Create News Section on Facebook Watch.

Campbell Brown, the company’s head of news partnerships, announced at the Code Media conference in Huntington Beach, that the move is a part of a broader evolution of Facebook’s news strategy. However he didn’t say when it would launch or which outlets would show up, but he said that the News Feed would prioritize local stories.

Recently, Facebook has struggled to manage the quality of news content that is being shared on the platform and how news is being consumed by the massive Facebook audience. According to TechCrunch Campbell continued to recite the Facebook line of self-effacement with the company’s involvement in the media landscape. Facebook is focusing on local news publishers.

Adam Mosseri, VP of news feed said:

“I don’t think our focus on false news and integrity morphed into time well spent. For those set of issues, stuff that violates community standards or false news, those things need to be confronted head on. You have to assume that you’re dealing with an adversary who’s sophisticated and their strategy will change over time, so the work never ends.”

Watch platform has been launched by Facebook in August to compete more directly with other video distribution platforms online.
