Facebook to Launch Two Touch Screen Smart Speakers

Facebook is going to launch officially smart speakers and is ready to get into the global smart speaker market in mid-2018 by launching two new models, codenamed Aloha and Fiona. Facebook to Launch Two Touch Screen Smart Speakers.

According to industry sources both speakers will come with 15-inch touchscreens in July with the devices that will allow family and friends to stay in touch with video chat and various social features.

It has been reported that the Aloha model is expected to be the more expensive of the two products and may be sold under the name Portal. It is said to feature voice and facial recognition to identify users and would have a front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens. Facebook has also claimed to have partnered with Sony and Universal Music to include some kind of music functionality on the device

Facebook move is expected to further heat up the global smart speaker market, which has been crowded with heavyweight players, including top supplier Amazon and other tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, Apple and many China players including Alibaba. According to estimates by market researcher Canalys, the global market sales of smart speakers are likely to double to over 50 million units in 2018 from 2017.

The speakers were expected to be launched in May but Facebook is said to launch in July in order to improve their audio quality.
