Facebook to Launch VIP Application

Facebook, the social giant confirms that it’s testing new mobile features (an application exclusively for celebrity use) to help public figures interact with their fans

Facebook is testing new mobile features for its most famous users to check updates and chat to fans, with what All Things Digital is describing as a “VIP app” that aims to get stars more engaged with its service.

Facebook spokesperson told:

[pull_quote_center] “We are testing these features with a small group of partners and will share more details should we roll it out more widely.”[/pull_quote_center]

This new feature follows the social network’s launch in May 2013 of “verified” pages for celebrities and brands, using the same blue-tick icon that twitter uses.

It looks like that Facebook has established a strategy to encourage celebrities to use their Facebook account to interact with their fans on Facebook, rather than merely broadcasting updates at them.
