FBR Directs PTA and Telcos: Block 500,000 SIMs of Non-filers
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a directive instructing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and telecom operators to block 506,671 SIM cards associated with individuals who have not filed tax returns. This action is under an Income Tax General Order aimed at ensuring compliance with tax filing regulations outlined in the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Essentially, individuals who are required to file their income tax returns but have failed to do so will have their SIM cards deactivated as a measure to enforce tax compliance.
The FBR has clarified that the SIM cards belonging to tax evaders will remain blocked until they are restored by either the FBR or the relevant Inland Revenue commissioner. Previously, the FBR had issued final notices to non-filers, warning them about the blocking of their mobile SIM cards and mobile phones as part of efforts to enforce tax compliance.

The notice underscores the urgency of filing tax returns to avoid potential disruptions to these services.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has expanded its strategy to enforce tax compliance by implementing measures to disconnect the electricity and gas connections of individuals who have not filed their tax returns. This move underscores the FBR’s determination to incentivize tax compliance and ensure that individuals fulfill their tax obligations.

By filing tax returns, individuals contribute to the overall stability and growth of the economy, enabling governments to address societal needs and promote prosperity for all citizens.
