Finance Minister Inaugurates AI-Powered Centre for Government Data Analytics to Boost Transparency

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday inaugurated the Centre for Government Data Analytics at the Auditor-General of Pakistan (AGP) headquarters, highlighting the government’s push for modernizing public sector auditing through digital tools.

During the inauguration, Minister Aurangzeb lauded the establishment of the center and urged the adoption of advanced data analysis technologies, including machine learning, AI-based auditing, and automation through analytical bots. He emphasized the need to digitally access and analyze data from various public sector databases, stating that such measures would strengthen audit coverage, accountability, and transparency in the use of public funds.

Auditor-General of Pakistan Maqbool Ahmad Gondal highlighted a strategic shift from quantity to quality in audits, focusing on entity- and project-based reporting. He underscored the role of audits as a tool to improve governance while fostering a collaborative environment with auditable entities.

Speaking on modernization and reforms, the AGP outlined ongoing digital transformation initiatives, including the implementation of the Audit Management Information System (AMIS), the establishment of the Centre for Government Data Analytics, and the integration of data analytics tools to enhance audit efficiency and transparency. The centre aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for a digitally-driven economy, with an increasing flow of digital data from cashless transactions expected to support real-time analysis.

Controller General of Accounts Umar Ali Khan briefed the Finance Minister on CGA’s mandate, achievements, and ongoing reforms. These include strengthening government accounting systems, ensuring timely financial reporting, and implementing initiatives such as the Micro Payment Gateway (MPG), RAAST, online billing, migration to SAP HANA, and centralized HP SuperDom servers. The transition to accrual-based accounting in accordance with international standards, with World Bank support, is also underway.

Both institutions reiterated their commitment to continued reforms, digitalization, and collaboration to enhance the effective use of public resources for citizens. The Finance Minister appreciated the AGP’s efforts in promoting good governance and transparency.
