Fitbit has collaborated with Dexom, a major medical device maker to add diabetes monitoring function on its device. The iconic smartwatch of Fitbit already has fitness tracking capability.

Dexcom’s data will be shared with Fitbit which will display glucose levels alongside steps, heart rate and other stats on the devices. For monitoring of glucose, the patient will have to connect one of Dexcom’s device to their Fitbit app. This technology will make the data radially available on the wrist.

After the announcement of this new diabetic feature in there smartwatch, Fitbit shares jumped up 13 percent immediately. While discussing the features, company revealed that the Ionic smartwatch will feature GPS, heart rate tracking and water resistance up to 50 meters.

The smartwatch also has Fitbit Pay, on-board music, multiple clock faces and a battery that will last more than four days. The Dexcom features will be launched in mid 2018.
