Samsung Galaxy Fold vs Huawei Mate X – Which one is better?

The Race of Foldable phone is not new, Samsung being the pioneer of announcing foldable phone first announced Galaxy Fold. However this Marathon is joint by Huawei with giving tough competition to its rival by introducing rollable phone, Huawei Mate X. Huawei Mate X was announced at MWC 2019 in Barcelona. This blog will focus on Samsung Galaxy Fold vs Huawei Mate X.

Both the device have flexible displays with delicate hinges which unfolds to into a tablet. Best thing is that both the devices are 5G compatible. Right now the exact prices are not known but definitely, these devices will be very expensive.

The basic difference in the design can be seen as Galaxy fold has one small screen outside, however a large screen inside. However Mate X is using one screen in three different ways, isn’t’ it better? Yes, the shape of the device changes the way you hold the device.

Samsung foldable device has 4G and 5G compatibility and six cameras however Mate x has four cameras and overall 5G compatibility. Moreover, Galaxy Fold hinge is not completely flat, compared to Huawei who has a delicate hinge for which they are proud of.

Galaxy Fold vs Mate X – Design

When it comes to the display of this phone, both are quite different. Samsung Galaxy Fold looks like a book with the largest screen inside protected by a smaller outer screen. Galaxy Fold Screens are complementing each other however one screen will be on the other at one time. However, to me, Huawei Mate x screen is better, as its screen can even act as there, depending on how you hold the device.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold will have 6.4” exterior screen and 7.3” interior screen.

Huawei Mate X Screens:

It has 8.0” OLED display. When in a closed position, the front screen is 6.6”, whereas the rear screen is 6.38”. When you turn the phone on, the lit up screen switches.

The cameras:

As discussed above Galaxy Fold has six cameras. Three are placed on the back of the device and two on the front and the other one on the cover. Well,l its funny, at the start people will find it difficult to remember where is the camera placed and which camera to use for which picture.

Whereas, Huawei Mate X has four cameras. Right now we can see three in the picture however the CEO Huawei has revealed that there are four cameras which company will turn on in March.

Foldable smartphones –A Worthy Buy in 2019?

No doubt, Foldable smartphone is something new and is based on latest technology. Although both the companies are launching finished end products for consumers to buy however for the end users they are not worthy enough. Many would be thinking why? The answer is clear and easy. Both the devices are the first generation of foldable. In actual these devices are the outcome of “a race for the most innovative smartphone brand”.  Surely, in the coming years, foldable smartphones will improve in terms of technology. Until then, according to us Mate 20 pro, S10+, iPhone XS are perfect to spend your money on.

Prices and Availability:

It is understood that Foldable phones would be expensive due to prime features. In order to buy Galaxy Fold or Mate X, one should have at least $2,000.

Galaxy Fold: $1,980, on sale April 26 in select markets, including the US.
Huawei Mate X: 2,300 euros, sale date starting in select markets around June or July.

However all the information above is just a piece of information, maybe it the price and availability will change.

Verdict:

Samsung and Huawei are not the only brands who are manufacturing the foldable phone. LG, Huawei and OPPO are also making their foldable line and am sure with time their devices will be better equipped with better technology and ideas.
