Recent regulatory filings in the United States have revealed important details about the Galaxy S26 Ultra. These filings, submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), are required before any device is released in the US market.

Two model numbers were listed: SM-S948U and SM-S948B. The “U” version refers to carrier-specific models sold in the United States, while the “B” version represents the unlocked global model. Both versions are shown to use the same processor, identified as SM8850.

This processor matches Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. As a result, Samsung has effectively confirmed that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will run on Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon platform, rather than Samsung’s own Exynos chip.

Why the Snapdragon Choice Matters

For years, the Samsung community has been debating Snapdragon versus Exynos processors. Snapdragon chips are often viewed as offering stronger overall performance and better heat management. Exynos processors, on the other hand, are known for slightly better power efficiency and battery life.

Recent benchmark leaks suggest the performance gap between the two has narrowed. Early tests showed the Exynos 2600 performing better in single-core tasks, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 pulled ahead in multi-core performance. Despite this, public perception continues to favor Snapdragon as the premium option.

By choosing Snapdragon for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung is signaling that its top-tier device will deliver the highest performance possible, aligning with expectations for an “Ultra” model.
