Google announces Android One to revolutionize low-end smartphones

Google has announced Android One, a design reference platform that will enable manufacturers to build ultra-cheap smartphones with much more ease.

Google I/O is a new initiative that the company calls Android One – A smartphone program that strives to provide a unified feature set tailored-made for the market the phone is launching in. The first smartphone to be part of the Android One comes from Micromax, one of the most popular smartphone brands in India.

Like Nexus and Google Play Edition products, Android One smartphones will get software updates from Google.
Google has revealed that Android is used by a billion users and the Android One initiative is part of its aim to reach out to the next five billion smartphone users.
