Google Celebrates the Extra Day with an Adorable Animated Doodle

The year 2016 is special not because it’s 11111100000 in the binary in fact today is Google celebrating a very rare day indeed “Leap Day”. 2016 (Leap Year) has 366 days instead of 365 and that is leap year.

A leap year, is an extra day that is added to the end of February after every 4 years; which is down to the “solar system’s disparity” according to the Gregorian Calendar.

One complete orbit of earth across the sun takes 365.2422 days to complete its orbit, but the Gregorian Calendar uses 365 days. So the idea behind these leap seconds and leap years is to keep our clocks and of course calendars in synchronization with rotation of the planet earth. So without Leap Day, we would be out of synchronization by almost 6 hours/year.
