Google Drive Receives Material Theme Refresh

We all know that Google Drive is a powerful cloud service. The service allows you to store files and create documents. Moreover, it even has a robust sharing system that helps you collaborate with friends and colleagues. Recently, we have come to know that Google is updating its app to reflect the new Material Theming convention. The Material Theme Refresh has started rolling out to Google Drive. It will soon make its way to all Users in phases.

Material Theme Refresh Is Rolling Out To Google Drive Users

Many new features like bottom navigation, an expanded search bar, and a new account switcher have been added through this update.

Google Drive Receives Material Theme Refresh

  • New Home tab and bottom navigation bar
    • The Home tab will show the files that are most important to you, based on things like:
      • The last time you edited or accessed a file
      • With Whom specific files are frequently shared with
      • Which files are mostly used at specific times of the day
    • A new bottom navigation bar that features options to switch between Home, Starred, Shared, and all files (Files), allowing for quicker access to your most important items.
  • Expanded search bar
    • The expanded search bar is now more accessible across the application, including from the Team Drives page.
  • My Drive, Team Drives and Computers in Files view
    • Team Drives will be shown as a tab next to My Drive in the Files view. In addition to that, the users will also see a Computers tab if they have backed up content from a local machine to their account.
  • New account switching experience
    • The feature to switch accounts has been moved from the left navigation menu to an icon in the top right.
  • Revised actions menu
    • A revised actions menu is now attached to every file.  The folder emphasizes the most frequently used actions at the top. Toggles for starred and offline are changed to buttons now.
