Google Maps has rolled out a massive update that will help to find recommendations for restaurants and other places to visit. Now you will experience a redesigned version of the Explore tab that appears at the bottom of the app when you open it up, both on Android and iOS.
You will find big buttons on new screen that allow you to dive into different categories, such as coffee shops, sports bars, live music venues, popular restaurants, upcoming events, popular activities etc.

This new update also brings a For You tab, which shows a news feed about local restaurants.
Moreover, it can be more useful as Google will now rate restaurants based on your choice. When you tap on a location, it will show how close of a match you are and will give you some context when you tap in to see more. However, Ratings are not appearing for all restaurants.
Some of the features might be bit different between iOS and Android. The recommended events and activities are not available on iOS yet. Right now the “For You” section of the app is limited to certain countries such as US, UK, Canada, Australia, and Japan.
