Google One Prices Increase in These Countries

Google has just increased the Google One prices for cloud storage plans in three African countries. Existing subscribers in Nigeria, Egypt, and Algeria will start seeing the new prices from August 26, following a transition period announced by the company in July.

The latest price adjustment also covers Pakistan and Turkey. However, the amount of the increase depends on the country, subscription plan, and local currency. This means the percentage increase seen in Nigeria does not necessarily apply to users in Egypt or Algeria.

Nigerian users face a major price increase

Google One users in Nigeria are facing some of the biggest increases in the latest adjustment. The 100GB plan now costs ₦2,950 per month, compared with the previous price of ₦1,900. That represents an increase of around 55%.

The 200GB plan has also become more expensive. Its monthly price has increased from ₦2,900 to ₦4,400, which is almost a 52% jump.

The higher price can make a noticeable difference for users who keep the subscription throughout the year. At the old monthly rate, the 200GB plan would cost ₦34,800 annually. At the new rate, the yearly cost rises to ₦52,800. This means users will pay an additional ₦18,000 over 12 months.

When will existing users pay the new rates?

Google is introducing the new prices at different times depending on how customers purchased their subscriptions.

Existing monthly subscribers who pay through Apple’s App Store started moving to the new prices on August 23. Google Play subscribers and customers with annual subscriptions purchased through Apple will begin paying the updated rates when their plans renew on or after August 26.

New customers have already been paying the higher prices since July 27.

Google Play subscribers in the affected markets who do not want to continue at the new price have until August 25 to cancel their subscription. Cancelling the plan does not immediately remove the paid storage. Users will continue to receive their Google One benefits until the end of their current billing period.

What happens after cancellation?

Google One provides additional storage for services such as Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. Standard Google accounts come with up to 15GB of free storage.

Users who cancel a paid plan but have more data stored than the free allowance may eventually face restrictions. Once their paid storage expires, Google warns that services such as Gmail, Drive and Photos could be affected.

Three African markets affected

Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria are among the five countries included in Google’s latest Google One price adjustment.

Google has not applied one fixed percentage increase across all markets. Prices vary based on the plan and local currency, so Nigerian users should not assume that subscribers in Egypt or Algeria will see the same percentage changes.

The latest move also marks another round of Google One price increases in Africa. Google introduced a wider price adjustment across 18 countries in February 2025. Nigeria and Egypt were included in that earlier round, while Algeria is being affected in the latest change.

Google One is becoming more than cloud storage

The price increases come as Google continues to expand Google One beyond basic cloud storage. The service is increasingly connected with Google’s AI offerings, including additional Gemini features and larger storage packages.

For existing subscribers, however, the immediate impact is straightforward. Keeping the same Google One plan will cost more when their next eligible renewal date arrives.
