Google Tests Feature to Let Users Change Their Gmail Address

Google is testing a new feature that allows users to change their Gmail address. This change can be made without losing emails, files, or account data. The update is meant for users who want to replace old or unprofessional email names created years ago.

The feature was discovered on Google’s support pages. At the moment, the updated information appears only on the Hindi version of the page. The English version still says that Gmail addresses usually cannot be changed. This suggests that Google may be starting the rollout in India or other Hindi-speaking regions.

Google Tests Feature to Let Users Change Their Gmail Address

According to the support page, users will be able to replace their existing @gmail.com address with a new one. All account data will remain unchanged. Emails, photos, messages, and files will stay exactly as they are. Users will not need to create a new account or move data manually.

The old Gmail address will not be removed. It will continue to work as an alias. Emails sent to the old address will still arrive in the same inbox. Users can also sign in to Google services using their original address. This includes platforms like Google Drive, Maps, and YouTube.

Previously, users who wanted a new Gmail address had to create a separate account. They then had to transfer data themselves. This process was often complicated and risky. It sometimes caused problems with third-party apps and service integrations.

The new feature removes many of these issues. It keeps all services connected under one account. The transition is smoother and more secure. It also saves time and effort for users.

There are some restrictions. After changing a Gmail address, users must wait 12 months before making another change. They also cannot delete the newly chosen address. These limits are meant to prevent misuse of the feature.

Google has not released an official announcement about this update. There was no press release. The feature was first noticed by users and tech communities online. Google has also not confirmed which regions will receive the update first.

The feature is expected to roll out gradually. Not all users will see it right away. If released globally, it could be a major improvement in Gmail account management and user flexibility.
