 The objective behind the move is to maximize the economic opportunity and boosting self-employment potential of youth through the growth of freelancing and entrepreneurship.

The government has estimated that e-commerce business is expected to reach one billion dollars by 2020 in Pakistan.

Officials’ sources revealed that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has prepared a way-forward to promote e-commerce and IT exports.

Officials further said that collaborative working with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and other stakeholders has started regarding National e-payment Gateway and other issues of IT/ITeS exporters in general and Freelancers in particular.

The Ministry is also working on e-commerce portal and creation of craft Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMES) database.  The e-Commerce for Artisan project has been approved by the Universal Service Fund (USF) Company board in the Public Private Partnership mode.

The project is aimed to provide an online platform to Craft MSMEs from across Pakistan in leather, carpet, furniture, textile, jewelry & pottery.  In this regard, 1000 craft MSMEs are to be taken on board and brought online.
