Government Extends Azfar Manzoor’s Term as STZA Chairman

The Government of Pakistan has extended the tenure of Mr. Azfar Manzoor as Chairman of the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA). Mr. Manzoor, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), is currently serving as Special Secretary in the Information Technology and Telecommunication Division.
The Establishment Division issued a notification confirming the extension. The notification states: โThe additional charge of the post of Chairperson, Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA), granted to Azfar Manzoor, a BS-21 officer of PAS, presently posted as Special Secretary, Information Technology and Telecommunication Division, is extended w.e.f. 23-01-2025 till the date of his superannuation i.e. 26-02-2025 or the appointment of a regular incumbent; whichever is earlier.โ
Mr. Afzar brings over 30 years of diverse experience to his role. He has previously served as a board member of the Universal Service Fund (USF) and as Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Afzar holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from MIT and is considered a pioneer of ISP technology in Pakistan. He founded World Online (WOL) in the early days of the Internet in Pakistan, which was later sold to Orascom Group.
Under Mr. Manzoorโs leadership, STZA has been instrumental in establishing technology zones across Pakistan, including the Islamabad Technopolis, Lahore Technopolis, and Pakistan Digital City in Haripur. These initiatives aim to promote innovation, attract investment, and drive economic growth in the technology sector.
The extension of Mr. Manzoorโs tenure is expected to provide continuity and stability to STZAโs ongoing projects, further strengthening Pakistanโs position in the global technology landscape.
