Govt Removes 5-Litre Limit From PM Fuel Relief Scheme

The government has expanded the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme by removing the 5-litre fuel limit attached to each relief token. The revised scheme also brings older motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi vehicles into the programme.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced the changes during a media briefing. She said motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi vehicles registered on or after January 1, 2006, will now qualify for the fuel relief scheme. Previously, the government had set January 1, 2011, as the registration cut-off for motorcycles.
Under the revised mechanism, eligible motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users will receive four tokens each month. Each token will provide a Rs500 fuel subsidy.

The government has also removed the requirement to link the Rs500 subsidy to a fixed five-litre petrol purchase. Users can now buy petrol according to their needs and receive the Rs500 relief through the token.
For example, Shaza Fatima explained that if two litres of petrol cost Rs780, an eligible user would pay only Rs280 after applying the Rs500 relief token.
The government has also eliminated SMS charges under the scheme. Owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc, as well as motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users, will not have to pay any SMS fee for registration or token issuance.

According to the government, more than 1.75 million registrations had been completed under the scheme by the afternoon of September 19. Authorities had issued around 1.5 million tokens, while more than 680,000 tokens had already been redeemed at petrol stations.
The government has also warned citizens about possible fraud involving the fuel relief scheme. It said users do not have to pay any fee for registration, SMS services or token issuance.
Citizens facing problems with registration, tokens or petrol stations can contact the 9771 helpline for assistance.
The government said it is continuously monitoring the implementation of the scheme and may introduce further changes based on public feedback and emerging requirements.
