Gul Ahmed Group Announces $230 Million Data Centre Project in Pakistan

Pakistan is set to take a major step forward in its digital development as Quantum Global Data Centre (QGDC), a company under the Gul Ahmed Energy Group, has announced plans to build the country’s largest Tier III data centre. The project will begin with an investment of $230 million and is expected to become operational in 2027.
The announcement was made during the Q Summit, where QGDC also revealed a strategic partnership with Huawei Pakistan. Together, the two companies plan to develop not only the data centre but also a science and technology park. The initiative aims to support Pakistan’s growing digital economy and help the country prepare for future technological advancements.

According to company officials, the total investment in the project could increase to as much as $600 million over the next three to four years. This reflects the long-term vision of building a strong digital infrastructure capable of meeting future demand.
Speaking at the summit, QGDC Chairman Danish Iqbal highlighted the importance of investing in data centres. He explained that although artificial intelligence (AI) is still in its early stages in Pakistan, the country is already spending between $700 million and $800 million every year on technology-related services and computing needs. He warned that this demand is expected to grow rapidly as AI becomes more widely used.
Iqbal stressed that advanced computing power is essential for economic growth. However, without modern data centres, Pakistan may have to rely heavily on foreign providers for computing services. This could result in billions of dollars leaving the country in the future. He emphasized that now is the right time for Pakistan to invest in local infrastructure and avoid missing a valuable opportunity.
The chairman also pointed out that demand for data centre services is already increasing across different sectors. Businesses, hospitals, educational institutions, and government organizations are gradually moving their operations to cloud-based systems. As more services become digital, the need for secure and reliable data storage and processing facilities will continue to rise.

Experts at the summit agreed that investment in digital infrastructure can have a significant impact on the economy. Modern data centres support a wide range of online services, improve data security, create employment opportunities, and attract foreign investment. They also provide the foundation needed for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and big data analytics.
The planned data centre project represents an important milestone for Pakistan’s technology sector. By developing local capacity, the country can reduce dependence on international service providers while supporting innovation and economic growth. If completed successfully, the project could strengthen Pakistan’s position in the regional digital market and help accelerate its journey toward a more technology-driven future.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, investments like this are expected to play a key role in shaping Pakistan’s economic and technological landscape for years to come.
