An official approval council, National Technology Council (NTC), to monitor and certify technology related degree programs has been officially introduced by Higher Education Commission (HEC).
HEC Formally Launches National Technology Council
On Wednesday, the first meeting of the National Technology Council (NTC) was held at Islamabad which was headed by Chairman HEC Prof Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.
In a press release it was revealed that NTC shall take into consideration various features for recognition of degree programs in technology associated subjects, consisting complete structure and scope of the program, courses, necessary infrastructure, faculty, level of compatibility with international standards and drifts, level of skill development by the program, level of integration of science and technology, student support, laboratory facilities, facilities for student activities and other services, financial support, level of job appointment of graduates, and so on.
Maj. Gen. Akbar Saeed Awan (Retd) and Dr Kausar Malik have taken charge as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the National Technology Council respectively.
Various programs whose approval will come under NTC’s purview consist, B-Tech Honors, BSc/BS Technology, Animal Production and Technology, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Emergency and Intensive Care Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Dental Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, Mortuary Technology, Food Sciences and Technology, Nanotechnology and Information Technology.
“The establishment of National Technology Council will be of great help in streamlining all the technology-related education. The Council will also take care of technology courses other than engineering technology, and will be responsible for developing and implementing quality assurance criteria in all the respective disciplines.”
