The transaction of $1.1 billion needs some regularity approvals and is expected to close by 2018. The two parties, Google and HTC said in a statement that:

HTC chairperson told that this agreement will support its branded smartphone strategy which will help them develop more streamlined products. This collaboration will also help HTC to build financial flexibility.

HTC will continue building virtual reality ecosystem to flourish its VIVE business. The company plans to invest in next generation technologies i.e; IoTs, AR and AI.

For Google this agreement will show the company’s commitment about smartphones. A part from HTC employees joining Google’s team, Google will also have access to HTC’s IP in order to support Pixel smartphones.
