Huawei Executive Arrested Over Spying Allegations

Huawei executive has been arrested in Poland alongside a Polish intelligence official last week over spying allegations. The company has also fired the employee.  CNN has reported that Huawei has confirmed in a statement that it had fired the employee, which China’s Polish embassy named as Wang Weijing, the company took this decision just because the incident in question has brought Huawei into disrepute.”

US is more concerned and has doubts that Huawei’s technology could be used by China’s security services to spy. However, China and Huawei have denied this. Last month, the daughter of its founder, a chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada and faced extradition to the US because of breaking Iran sanctions.

The Wall Street Journal said:

Poland’s counterintelligence agency is believed to have searched Huawei’s Poland headquarters, a local Orange branch, and the houses of both suspects. They took “documents and electronic data” from Huawei’s office.

On Friday, Polish authorities said that a director for Huawei in Poland, a Chinese national named as Weijing W, and Piotr D, a former special services officer, will be arrested for three months. If they found guilty then they will be faced up to 10 years in prison.
