Final three months of 2017 were great for Samsung. The South Korean tech giant’s operating profit reached 15.1 trillion won (around $14 billion USD), in the October-December period. We can say that 2017 was the great year for Samsung. On the whole, operating profit of Samsung in 2017 is estimated to have exceeded $50 trillion won (around $46 billion), which is a high record for the company. So the company made 29 trillion won (around $27 billion) in the year prior.

No doubt Samsung’s flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 have very good market and are selling well, but for the great financial results they are not the main reason.

The tech giant has the chip business too, and that contributed a lot to brought in around 35 trillion won (around $32 billion) in total 2017 more than 60 percent of the entire operating profit of the company. In 2017, the demand for DRAM and NAND memory chips was high, which causes prices to shoot up and that results in a record-breaking year for Samsung.
