Increased Taxes: India Local Smartphone Production Dream Get Rude Shock. Government of India is reportedly considering raising the import duty on the mobile phones while threatening the local phone makers in the goods and services tax (GST) regime.

The smartphone manufacturers in India are currently “on the fence” due to the Government’s consideration to impose a new sales tax on smartphones makers in the country.

According to the Mobile World Live, Indian government is about to announce a new Goods and Services Tax (GST) due to which the prices of both locally manufactured and imported smartphones will become same. This itself shows a huge threat to the domestic smartphone manufacturing industry and overall a hurdling the Government’s previous initiative of “Make in India”. As previously, Indian government had encouraged the domestic manufacturing of smartphones but now if it imposes this new tax then it will be a huge threat to the local device manufacturing.
