Instagram Hashtags will Support People Struggling with Opioid Abuse

Instagram keeps on launching new features on and off for remaining in limelight but this time Instagram has launched something new for a good purpose. Yesterday Instagram launched a new feature to show support for people who are struggling with substance abuse, drug addiction and other health issues. Now Instagram hashtags will help people struggling with Opioid abuse.

When someone will search related hashtags such as #opioid, #crack or #suicide, Instagram will send a pop-up message that shows some information about the particular, it’s prevention and recovery process.

Karina Newton, Instagram’s head of public policy said in a statement:

“The opioid epidemic is an issue that affects millions of people, and we want to use our platform to offer resources to those who need it — in the places where they are seeking help. “This is an important step for us in our ongoing commitment to make Instagram the kindest, safest social network”

The photo-sharing app Instagram has launched this feature globally after analyzing the use of Opioid-related hashtags on their platform.  The company also revealed that people were ever using their platform to sell such illegal drugs. Their team said that blocking such keywords will not work as these actors will opt to other platforms for this.

An Instagram spokesperson said in a statement:

“In some cases, we are removing the communities of support that help people struggling with opioid or substance misuse. “We wanted to find a solution to ensure that people who search opioid-related hashtags in the US have a number of resources available to them.”

Let’s see how this strategy of Instagram will help people to fight with the opioid.
