Instagram Massive Hack Accessed Phone Numbers & Email Address of Verified Users
We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users’ contact information — specifically email address and phone number — by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API. No account passwords were exposed. We fixed the bug swiftly and are running a thorough investigation
Instagram has not provided further details regarding it. The photo sharing app declined to provide further information about the bugs.
Instagram spokesperson Further Explained:
At this point we believe this effort was targeted at high-profile users so, out of an abundance of caution, we are notifying our verified account holders of this issue
The most worst experience due to this Instagram bug happened when the account of Selena Gomez having 125 million followers was hacked. Hacker who took control of account posted nude pics of Justin Bieber.
All non verified account holder should thank God that they were not targeted this time around. Now as they have remained safe, they should enable two factor authentication and make sure they have unique password for each account. Instagram should also take possible precautionary measure to avoid such attacks in future.
