iOS 17.5 Bug Automatically Restoring Old Deleted Photos

If you are an iPhone user and your old deleted photos are appearing after the latest iOS 17.5 update, don’t worry! You are not alone! It sounds creepy that how are the old deleted photos resurfacing. The more alarming part is that when users try deleting them, they reappear. The latest iOS update has brought back long-forgotten photos that are hard to remove. Several Reddit users have claimed to have experienced this bug.

iOS 17.5 Update Brings A New Bug

One user over on Reddit says old photos deleted back in 2021 suddenly resurfaced and showed up as “recently uploaded” to iCloud. Numerous other Redditors then confirmed the issue. Another user said that four specific photos have been resurfacing even after being deleted repeatedly, over and over again. It is quite annoying. Isn’t it? However, it is not clear what’s going on and what is causing this behavior. No one would expect photos deleted years ago to ‘come back to life’ as the Recently Deleted album only holds stuff for 30 days.

The silicon giant hasn’t acknowledged the issue yet. Some people speculate that Apple may have inadvertently caused this issue in attempt to fix a photo syncing bug that occurred in iOS 17.3. The bug is freaking out people but also opens up the discussion that for how long Apple keeps deleted user data.

As per Apple Support, photos users delete from gallery are kept in the Recently Deleted Album for 30 days and thereafter removed from the handset. If they manually delete images from the Recently Deleted Album, then they are permanently gone. Technically, when a photo is deleted, only reference to its location is deleted. In order to restore it, the encryption key (if any) and perhaps other conditions are required. Anyhow, let’s wait and watch how much time Apple takes to fix this issue.
