IoT to Generate $1.8 Trillion Revenue for Telcos by 2026-GSMA

Internet of Things (IoTs) have created huge opportunities for the telecommunication sector from across the globe. The new GSMA Report published by the analyst house “Machina Research” highlighted latest figures in the IoT Forecast Database Research. The report explains that the estimated US$1.8 trillion revenue figure is based on the early deployment of commercial Power Wide Area Networks in licensed spectrum by the mobile operators in the world. IoT to Generate $1.8 Trillion Revenue for Mobile Operators by 2026-GSMA.

This clearly indicates massive growth opportunities for mobile companies delivered via new mobile IoT applications and services. Up till now, 15 commercial Mobile IoT services are launched by the 12 mobile operators in the world; including:

  • AT&T Telstra
  • Verizon (LTE-M)
  • China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom
  • Deutsche Telekom
  • KT
  • LG Uplus
  • M1
  • Turkcell and Vodafone (NB-IoT)

GSMA research highlighted that alone American mobile operators will generate an estimated amount of US$534 billion approximately; which is a third of the total revenue.

GSMA CTO Alex Sinclair said that:

“There is a real sense of momentum behind mobile IoT in licensed spectrum, with multiple commercial launches around the world, as well as the availability of hundreds of different applications and solutions.”

Sinclair also added that:

“Many operators are already reaping the benefits of deploying Mobile IoT and we encourage others to act now to capitalize on this clear market opportunity and further accelerate the development of the Internet of Things.”

The GSMA Research further stated that following estimated figures based on consumer’s demand also suggested huge growth opportunities for mobile operators:

  • Connected Home: US$441 billion
  • Consumer Electronics: US$376 billion
  • Connected Car Technologies: US$273 billion
