ITU and edX Sign MoU for Pakistan’s “First Digital University”
According to the press release, the partnership between ITU and edX will lead to the establishment of the first “Digital University” in Pakistan.
This collaboration with edX will let Pakistani students take courses from best universities across the world. ITU faculty members will be supervising the students.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Umar Saif said,
“This is the first of its kind partnership of EdX with any university, in which online courses on EdX are integrated into classrooms and supervised exams. Students earn a course completion certificate from a university such as MIT or Harvard, and course credits from ITU.”
Dr. Agarwal edX CEO and MIT Professor also said,
“By leveraging technology and its university partnerships, ITU is offering its students a blended learning environment focused on improved learning outcomes by combining the best of online education with classroom instruction.”
Due to this partnership ITU will become the first university in Pakistan to integrate courses offered by edX into the University’s certified degree programs.
The university will be incorporating edX micro-masters into their master’s programs in Data Sciences and Development Economics from next year. Presently, first-year ITU Electrical Engineering students are enrolled into the Circuits and Electronics course at MIT via this partnership.
edX was founded by Harvard University and MIT in 2012. It is an online learning destination and MOOC provider, delivering high-quality courses from the world’s top universities and institutions to learners around the world.
