The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) while recognizing the importance of investor education has launched an investor education program called ‘Jamapunji’. The need for this initiative was felt by the organization as there is fundamental deficiency of knowledge and understanding of the financial market by general public. Lack of financial literacy and capability makes general public vulnerable to frauds.
Federal Minister for Finance, Mr. Ishaq Dar, inaugurated the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s (SECP) Jama Punji- the investor education web portal. The idea behind the creation of ‘Jamapunji’ is to train the general public with skills and knowledge in order to take financial decisions wisely. Jamapunji, has been established as a subsidiary of the SECP. The web portal “Jama Punji” aims to convey knowledge of financial markets and products to different fundamental segments of the society. The Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed the efforts of Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and hoped that the web portal will educate people regarding the investment trends. he also said that:
“The portal launched by the SECP is user-friendly and it will act as a single point learning resource for the existing and potential users of financial products offered in the capital market, including mutual funds, pension fund and insurance industry and company registration.”
On this occasion, Zafar ul Haq Hijazi, Chairman SECP said that:
“In accordance with its mandate, the SECP under its Investor Education Program was imparting knowledge through digital means – web portal- SMS and social media – and physical interaction via seminars and workshops.”
“Jamapunji” exclusive features include:
- Risk profiler
- Scam meter
- Investment check lists
- Stock trading simulator
- Information about various financial products
Through this portal investors can also verify company registration, dispute resolution mechanism and links to complaint registration.
In order to provide awareness and spread the idea, SECP is in process to collaborate with universities and schools to train young trainees. Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with leading universities and schools across the country will be announced soon.
